{To inspire} Invincible Summer

As the days grow warmer here in South Africa, I have been thinking of a well known quote by a french philosopher:

In the depths of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer. Albert Camus

I love the idea of having all that you need at hand, and simply realising it makes it accessible. No one is born shy or afraid, we develop negative traits through influence and knocks. Ironically, it's often a really difficult experience/hard knock that helps you tap into that internal strength out of pure necessity. The trick is to hold onto that strength and carry it forward, knowing that you are capable and great instead of accepting thoughts of inadequacy and being surprised when you achieve something.

I know this seems awfully deep for a Friday, but my own experiences, as well as seeing friends doubt themselves lately, led to recurring thoughts about how wonderful they are and how unfounded those doubts are. Claim your greatness guys! Go forth and conquer :)

On that note, here are some rather pretty typographic designs and illustrations to delight and inspire as Spring moves into Summer.

I <3 Mandy Lynne

Today I'm appreciating the gorgeous photography of Mandy Lynne, who captures the most precious childhood moments and stunning colours. I am about to embark on a little summer holiday with my family to Balito, with all its great beaches and warm water (something Cape Town's beaches tend to lack, lovely as they are). We haven't done a family holiday in a while: kids, parents and grandparents included, so I feel a pang for childhood days and memories of ice cream running down cones, putt putt and running through the surf wearing only bikini bottoms, not a care in the world and a desire to build the best sand castle ever seen!Hence I felt that this was the perfect time to share Miss Lynne's beautiful work.

We're all going on a summer holiday no more working for a week or two. Fun and laughter on our summer holiday, no more worries for me or you, for a week or two.

We're going where the sun shines brightly we're going where the sea is blue. we've all seen it on the movies, now let's see if it's true.
